First call
How do you make the first thirty seconds of a 1v1 video call easy?
Sort out light, camera and one opening question before you tap start. Turn towards a lamp or a window until the light falls on the front of your face; with the light behind you, all the other person sees is an outline. Rest the phone against something at eye height rather than holding it, because shaky video is tiring to watch and a low angle flatters nobody.
Then smile, say hi, and ask something small: which city they are in, what the clock says there, what they had for dinner. That is all an opener needs to be. Most people on Mixu are here for the same reason you are and will meet you halfway.
The safety tips cover which details are better left unsaid the first time you talk. If you would rather pick who you ring than leave it to chance, see online video call.
Earphones help more than a better camera. They cut the echo of your own speaker, and a call that sounds clean feels twice as relaxed.
